The Marcus Rennix Scholarship is open to horticulture, landscape architecture, or nursery and greenhouse management West Virginia native students who have completed half the required courses in the relevant major and maintained at least a 2.5 grade point average. The criteria prioritizes scholarships to West Virginia citizens wherever they are studying in an effort to support the nursery and landscape industry in West Virginia. Five in-state students attending West Virginia University (WVU) studying landscape architecture and horticulture received $5,000 each in 2025, thanks to WVNLA’s Marcus W. Rennix scholarship program.
The WVU scholars were recognized at the association’s February 11 Winter Symposium in Charleston. The scholarship winners were:
- Penelope Edwards of Morgantown, a senior majoring in Landscape Architecture
- Chelsea Elliott of Bridgeport, a senior majoring in Landscape Architecture
- Samuel Glazier of Charleston, senior studying Landscape Architecture
- Alaira Hudson of Davis, a senior majoring in Landscape Architecture
- Hailey Lane of New Martinsville, a senior studying Horticulture.
Glazier and Lane were 2024 recipients of the Rennix scholarship and met guidelines for reapplying. Competition was high this year, with an abundance of applicants, which challenged board members to make their selections.
